a gallery, a frame shop, and a slow accumulation of vintage, arranged so a piece and its frame arrive as one object.
Underground Gallery Workshop is a small gallery paired with a full custom frame shop. The gallery opened in 2012. The framing bench has been running for twenty years. The vintage table stretches back another five.
The focus is representation of a surreal storyart artist, with custom handmade frames as a co-star. Regional prints, curated vintage, and the occasional sculpture round it out. The through-line is the whole presentation.

“I'm not looking for a dramatic jump in business. I'm looking to broaden the base, and to show the unique perspective of the whole product, the frame as part of the art.”
Twenty years at the framing bench. The gallery opened in 2012. Vintage collecting goes back another five years before that. The shop has worn a few different looks over the years, chasing what appeals to regional buyers, and it has sustained.
The vision now is simple: represent one or two artists well, build frames that belong to the art, and let a piece of vintage accent the whole. Reach out any time at dhbassco@hotmail.com or 763.202.3700.
what we do.
Surreal storyart at the center, with a small rotation of guest painters and printmakers. Signed originals, ready to hang or pair with a workshop-built frame.
Shop Original Art →Twenty years of framing, one piece at a time. Barnwood, gilded, reclaimed, themed. The frame becomes part of the presentation, not a border around it.
Start a Commission →Farming, fishing, cityscapes. Prints chosen for regional resonance and often shown with a themed frame built to match.
Shop Prints →One-of-a-kind vintage accents, hand-picked to carry the theme of a piece or a room. Not filler. Small sculpture in their own right.
Shop Vintage →Occasional sculpture and pottery from guest makers. Quiet forms that sit next to a painting rather than compete with it.
Shop Sculpture →built to the art. not around it.
Every commission starts with a conversation about the piece, the room, and the theme. Then the workshop gets to it. Three ways to begin.
